R-390A Restoration Services

*** UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ***

I have stopped accepting new restoration work requests.  As of March 2003, I have almost one year of work scheduled, which I will complete.  God and family require my attention elsewhere.

For details of a full restoration, refer also to the services page and the details page.

By filling in the following information, I will send you a quotation for restoration work on your R-390A.  In addition to the amount quoted, you will be responsible for all shipping plus any required additional parts and labor to repair problems which were necessary to repair, but were not asked for in the quotation request.  Quotations are valid for 30 days.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Complete this form, and then send this page by email.

(Recommended options for a full restoration are checked by default below)

Front Panel

1.1a Repaint engraved front panel (remove paint, sand, fill imperfections, prime, paint, bake, wax, letter)

1.1b Repaint silk-screened front panel.  (I have to send them off to have them repainted, so I'll only handle this task for you if I do a full restoration of your R-390A.  This adds several weeks to the restoration time.)

1.2 Repaint knobs and dial cover (remove paint, sand, prime, paint, bake, stripe knobs)

RF Deck / Crystal Oscillator

2.1a Gear-train rebuild (disassemble, polish brass gears, separate split-gears and reset tensions, clean, relube, reassemble, resychronize) - recommended if gear train is very dirty or stiff

2.1b Clean the gear train without disassembly (this may be all that is needed if not too dirty and split gear springs not slack).

2.2 Refurbish RF deck (4 new capacitors, replace bad resistors, add missing production mods, test tubes, alignments, clean and polish chassis, clean and align bandswitch, check/resolder connections in signal path, sync with PTO, set counter overlap, clean and lubricate slug racks bearings and bearing slides)

IF Deck

3.1a IF Deck Refurbish (18 new capacitors, replace bad resistors, add missing production mods, clean and polish chassis, test tubes, alignments, optimize IF gain adjustment, more)

3.1b My capacitors have been replaced, but I want the remainder of the above step done

3.2 Add SSB/AGC mod to the IF deck (highly recommended, unless you have an external SSB converter)

3.3 Add the mod which allows a 12BH7 tube in place of 3TF7 (includes a spare 12BH7)

3.4 Replace the carrier meter zero adjust potentiometer with a 10-turn precision potentiometer

AF Deck

4.1 Restore AF deck, including replacing all paper caps

4.2 Rebuild both filter capacitors using new components inside the existing aluminum cans (highly recommended)

PTO

PTO Manufacturer (required if any PTO work selected)

5.1 Set the PTO endpoints (required prior to any RF deck alignment)

5.2 Disassemble and lubricate the PTO internally, and renew desiccant  (disassembly is often required on Cosmos PTOs in order to set endpoints)

PTO linearity can be adjusted if necessary at extra cost, and is often required on Cosmos PTOs.  Contact me for details.

Chassis

6.1 Add the inrush current limiter (gives a "soft" start)

6.2 Replace existing 2-prong AC cord with a 3-prong cord.

6.3 Convert the power supply to solid state and return existing tubes

I can also add B+ fuses to your rig if yours is an early version with only one fuse.  Contact me for details.
