Filter CapacitorsI always rebuild the filter capacitors which reside on the AF deck. C-603 and C-606 are multi-sectioned capacitors with 3x30 uF and 2x45 uF rated at 300V. By cutting these carefully with a Dremel tool, new internal components can be placed inside the existing cans. I've tried cutting around the capacitior at the base, as shown in the first photo, and also across the bottom band as shown in the fourth photo below. The first method seems to finish looking better, so long as your neat with the J-B Weld. Several methods can be useful in removing the black "ukumpucky" from the inside of the can. Screwing a big lag screw into the stuff, and pulling on the screw sometimes works. Heating the outside of the can may help loosen the stuff enough to get it out if it has hardened. A final cleaning with mineral spirits and gentle scraping should remove the rest. After cleaning out the inside, I grind off the connection points, and drill and tap the aluminum for #4-40 threads. I use brass 4-40 screws, and cut off the heads of each with the Dremel tool. Then I tin the top of the screws with solder, solder the new capacitors in place, and use J-B Weld to reattach the cans to the base. I use 33 uF and 47 uF capacitors rated at 350V, manufactured by Xicon. These are small enough to fit inside the cans and can be purchased from Mouser. These are also part of the complete restoration kit that I offer. Rebuilding these for you is also one of the services I can provide.
